[kuh-mit-muh nt]

Definition of Commitment

One of the least understood of the Scrum Values; the Team commits to living their Values and doing their due diligence to get Stories “Done;”

An obligation a person has promised to accomplish,

Often used as a synonym for Sprint Commitment.

Examples

The Team makes and keeps its commitments/agreements; and the Team Members must have commitment to the Team and the Product itself.

The purpose of the Sprint Planning session is two-fold: to have the Team commit to a Sprint Goal, and to have the Team agree to do some Stories. The purpose of this layering of Commitment and Agreement is to provide some safety for the Team.

Team Members commit to each other, to the Team’s goals, and to the Product itself.
