Definition of Story
A request from a stakeholder for something of value (it could be an Epic);
A unit of work that is ‘small enough’ to be agreed to by the Team; a Backlog Item that is not an Epic.
(By others) A synonym for Backlog Item.
(By others) A synonym for User Story.
Examples
Carl and Susan are busy swarming on that new database Story.
Go talk to Joe (a stakeholder) and get a Story or two from him about what he needs from us.
The Story is completed during Sprint 3 of Release Two, and at the end of the Sprint it is moved (with all the other completed Stories) to the Done pile.
