Bug

[buhg]

Definition of Bug

A change that does not require a new acceptance test. There are two cases: 1) It can be a trivial change that does not require an acceptance test; examples include correcting a misspelling in a dialog box or moving an interface element on the screen; or 2) It can be a fix that is determined by having an existing acceptance test fail. Often used (incorrectly, in my view) as a synonym for Defect.

Examples

This issue about bugs is just the simplest, and most common, example of a more general problem, which is the problem about how to manage the ‘known unknowns’; that is, those general things that everyone knows will happen, but the exact details are unknown.

Industry data show that fixing Bugs the same day as they are discovered will double the velocity of a Team.
